Deran Young is a Licensed therapist, Social Media Influencer/Official Facebook Partner and founder of Black Therapists Rock! She obtained her Masters in Social Work from the University of Texas and also holds a Masters in Public Administration (with emphasis on leadership, diversity, and organizational culture). She is passionate about understanding people from all walks of life. In this vein, she has visited over 36 countries and conducted her final semester of graduate school in Ghana, West Africa, where she established a High School counseling center. Prior to her work in the non profit arena, she honed her leadership skills and clinical expertise while serving in the U.S. Air Force for over 17 years! Her clinical experience has primarily focused on healing childhood trauma and family crisis intervention (specifically domestic violence and child abuse). As a single mother, she is passionate about raising her son to be loving, confident, and self aware. She enjoys exploring the world, traveling with her old son to teach him how to share connection and compassion with others. They recently returned to the U.S. after residing in Italy for two years where Amir briefly studied Italian. She was recently featured in Black Enterprise magazine and has been acknowledged by the Mayor of Baltimore for "helping to educate the public on mental illness and end the stigma that is often associated with it". Her hard work and dedication to raising awareness of mental health issues afforded her the opportunity to be highlighted in the Huffington Post as one of the "10 Black Female Therapists You Should Know".
