Rev. Sonja Williams began serving in ministry as the Director of the Singles Ministry of Greater Mount Calvary Holy Church (GMCHC), in 1994 in Washington, DC. She relinquished her post as Singles Ministry Director when she married Dwight Williams, the Co-Director of the Singles Ministry. The two soon after became the Directors of the Marriage Ministry at Hope Christian Church (HCC), serving together in ministry for over 15 years, prior to joining Reid Temple AME church. As a member of Reid Temple AME Church, Sonja served in the Marriage Ministry and in the Intercessory Prayer Ministry. She entered ordained ministry in 2014, and served as Assistant to the Pastor at Bethel AME Church in Woodbridge, Virginia. She currently serves as Associate Minister at Kingdom Fellowship AME Church in Silver Spring, MD under the direction of Pastor Matthew L. Watley.
Rev. Sonja has been involved in the study and work of enriching marriages for over two decades. Academically, her undergraduate degree focused on family studies and her Master of Divinity degree focused on pastoral counseling; she completed a second Master of Science degree majoring in marriage and family therapy. As a University of Maryland instructor, she supervised marriage and family therapy graduate students She also taught graduate level marriage and family therapy and couples therapy courses at Johns Hopkins University and worked at Johns Hopkins Hospital in the Outpatient Mental Health Clinic as a Psychiatric Therapist.
Rev. Sonja currently owns two businesses that are dedicated to improving marriage and family relationships and spiritual development: Sonja Williams and Associates, LLC, provides clinical services to clients who are in need of healing from mental and emotional disorders. LoveSavers International, Inc. is a non- profit entity that helps individuals, couples and families develop healthy relationships with God, themselves and others. Rev. Sonja is also completing a coaching certification program offered by the College of Executive Coaching and approved by the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) in Wellness and Well-Being. As such, she provides executive coaching services for pastors and leaders seeking to improve work-life-ministry performance while living satisfying and productive lives. She is also a certified IFS therapist.
